Background:

During the course of construction in was discovered that additional geotechnical validation is needed in the area of the large retaining wall at the intersection of Gallup Hill Road and Colonel Ledyard Highway.  The construction effort in this location has been halted pending this and the associated design confirmation.  Weston & Sampson has proposed these services for a lump sum fee of $15,300.

Additionally, the balance of original construction design engineering funds has been exhausted, because of various construction eventualities.  Weston & Sampson has proposed an additional $15,000 to cover the balance of the construction effort.

The August 12, 2024 Weston & Sampson proposal is attached.

Department Comment/Recommendation:

These additional engineering services are required to continue/complete the project.  Also, the geotechnical services are urgently needed to resume construction, as the engineering and any related design adjustments will take at least three (3) weeks.  I recommend immediate approval.
