Background:

The vision for the Tri-Town Trail Greenway began in 2008 with a Master Plan to develop a fourteen-mile multi-use passive  recreational greenway trail from Bluff Point State Park through Groton, Ledyard, and to Preston Community Park.

On February 9, 2022 the Town Council approved a “Resolution to Endorse Participation in the Greenway Nomination of the Tri-Town Trail Greenway to the Connecticut Greenway Council”.

Receiving a Greenway Designation would enhance the ability to obtain grant funding for the construction of the trail or to purchase other land for connectivity and to expand the Greenway.

The Greenway Designation would not place any restrictions on the future use of the land by the town or by private landowners. The Tri-Town Trail Greenway was in-line with the 2020 Ledyard Plan of Conservation (POCD) and the goals.

The proposed “Authorizing Resolution of the Ledyard Town Council; State Of Connecticut Department of Energy And Environmental Protection for the Tri-Town Trail Greenway Project - Phase 2” was seeking Grant funding in the amount of up-to $112,000 to be used for the construction of the Tri-Town Trail; and would not require a local match.
