MOTION to appoint Ms. Gillian Thorne ( R) 3 Adios Lane, Ledyard, to the Library Commission to complete a two (2) year term ending November 7, 2027 filling a vacancy left by Ms. Candler.

Background:
Ms. Thorne is retired from UCONN where she was the Director of UCONN Early College Experience. She was also the former Principal Stonington Deans Mill and Franklin Elementary School.
Ms. Thorne has a PhD in UCONN Curriculum and Instruction, Master Degree UPENN Education.
Ms. Thorne has been an active member of the community, serving on the Republican Town Committee as their former secretary, Church Outreach, Chaired the Strawberry Supper for five ears, was the Rd Cross Blood Drive Manager, Women's Fellowship Program co-Chairman, Missions Secretary, Book Club Organizer.
Ms. Thorne believes that her thirty year career in education has made her knowledge about the important of and the evolution of libraries, specially the dissemination of information to the public.
Administrative Notes:
Ms. Barbara Candler term is due to expire on November 7, 2 025 and she had informed Library Commission Chairman Bolduc that she was not interested in continuing to serve on the Commission and would step down at the end of her term. (see attached reappointment form)
With Ms. Nash's resignation the Library Commission has one vacancy. (see attached roster).
Nominating Committee Recommendation:
9/11/2024 - The Republican Nominating Committee endorsed the appointment of Ms. Thorne to the Library Commission. (see attached).
