MOTION to appoint Mr. James Harwood (D) 10 Eska Drive, Ledyard, to Planning & Zoning Commission as an Alternate Member, to complete a three (3) year term ending December 31, 2025 filling a vacancy left by Ms. Baudro.

Background:

Mr. Harwood has a Bachelors of Science in Chemistry and Biology and PHD in Biochemistry. He is currently retired.

Mr. Harwood has been an active participant in the community participating in the Ledyard Soccer Club (1990-2020). He also volunteered his time to serve as a coach, referee, referee assignor, fields coordinator and board Member

In addition Mr. Harwood is currently a member of the Ledyard Conservation Commission and has been serving in this capacity since June of 2021.

Planning & Zoning Commission Chairman Tony Capon, talked with Mr. Harwood about his interest in also serving on the Planning and Zoning Commission to fill a current vacancy and to bring a Conservation Commission perspective to the Planning and Zoning Commission. (see attached Application).

In accordance with Chapter IV; Section 8 of the Town Charter "Except as otherwise provided for in this Charter, the Town Council may appoint members to fill vacancies in other offices, boards, and commissions established by this Charter and by ordinance as vacancies may occur, and appointing members to such offices, boards, and commissions as may be created in the future. Such appointments shall be made by the Town Council for such terms and upon such conditions as provided in the respective ordinance".
