MOTION to authorize the Mayor to apply for the Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) in the amount of $24,000 spread out over three $8,000 allocations over the next three years.

Background:
Per the Department of Justice (DOJ), CT JAG Local Level funds are available only to municipalities and federally recognized tribes for projects and programs that address criminal justice issues. Funding will support local police agency initiatives focused on ensuring community safety and preventing gun violence. The allocation amounts are determined by a formula that considers the crime rate relative to population. Funding tiers and calculations are outlined in the allocation table, which is attached and also available on the program details page.
Department Comments/Recommendation:
In the interest of supplementing our budget, I recommend applying for this grant to assist in the purchase of equipment, supplies, contractual support, training, technical assistance, and information systems for criminal justice. Any additional funding would support local agency initiatives designed to ensure community safety and prevent gun violence.

GRANT APPLICATION POLICY AND PROCESS
The Ledyard Town Council will approve all grant applications submitted by the Town to any governmental agency or private foundation on behalf of the Town; and any items that are offered to the Town by any entity, and items taken in forfeiture by the Town. Every department, commission, or board acting on behalf of the Town of Ledyard when seeking grants or responding to an offer to the Town of grant funds or items must follow this policy and process.
