PUBLIC COMMENTS
Naomi Rodriguez, Town Council Chairperson, asked to speak to the Committee. She apologized
for presenting it a month late but said that April was "Volunteer Appreciation month" and the
Town Council would like to extend a sincere thank you to all of the members. She read "you and
your fellow Commission members take time and talent and are a critical component to making
our Town operate and a great place to live. Our volunteers support many of the programs the
Town offers to our residents which range from many different areas. The Town Council would
like to recognize over 200 volunteers who serve on Ledyard's many Committees, Commission
and Boards".
Chairperson Kohrs said she appreciated hearing those words.

OLD BUSINESS
Future Projects Discussion.
Unfortunately, the Earth Day Event had to be cancelled due to rain. Chairperson Kohrs asked if
the Committee members want to reschedule the entire event or an abbreviated version. Ms.
Christiansen will ask Scott Johnson about having a dumpster available for a week for residents
to fill. A suggestion was made to create signs promoting keeping garbage away, they could read
"keep our parks clean", "clean up after yourself", "keep our Town beautiful", etc. Another idea is
to partner with the Little League or Parks and Recreation on this initiative. Does Public works
make signs? Ms. Hawes suggested selling "Keep Ledyard Beautiful" bumper stickers. Ms.
Eastbourne said she would prefer bumper magnets. It was decided to transition to "Earth Day
Everyday" instead of an event.
Ms. Eastbourne reported that the 8th grade Girl Scout Troupe would like to sponsor a planting
project and wanted guidance from the Committee as to where to plant. The spaces around either
the Ledyard/Gales Ferry four season signs or the Senior Center sign were suggested.
Chairperson Kohrs suggested getting a new sign for inside the stairwell at the Town Hall. Ms.
Kohrs said she will take a picture of the space to share with the Committee. Piggy backing off
the Parks and Recreations photo contest might be an option.
The Rotary Grant application is due May 15, 2025. Chairperson Kohrs said she will take the lead
on the application.
Chairperson Kohrs suggested planting a mixture of blue and yellow crocuses for the "250
Celebration".
A daffodil planting event on Colonel Ledyard Highway is tentatively set for October 25, 2025. A
bulb donation campaign will coordinate with the planting event. Money can be collected for the
bulbs at the Farmer's Market booth. The Committee agreed that the September 17 Farmer's
market "Hometown Heroes" theme would be a good day to promote both the Veterans Day sign
event and the October daffodil planting. Ms. Eastbourne volunteered to fill out the application
for this date.
