DIRECTORS REPORT
The Park Caretaker job posting will be up next week, under Ledyard Parks and Recreation.
Mr. Johnson thanks Ms. Schneider and Ms. Crocker for their work on the Senior Prom, which
was a very well received and attended event hosted on September 13th. Mr. Johnson states that
he and his staff are hoping to do something similar in March.
We held our first Tennis Tournament which was to benefit the Nick Pellegrino Scholarship, and
we raised $1,500.00.
The annual Trunk or Treat is scheduled for October 25th, Mr. Johnson states we are looking for
volunteers to judge trunks and do some crowd control. There are Aproximatley 25 Trunks so far,
and the department is expecting more than 1,500 children.
The fields have been leveled and overseeded for the Fall.
On November 7, 2024 the Community Relations Commission will be having a meeting to
discuss the Donahue Park and Pickleball. This meeting will be held at the Gales Ferry
Community Center.
Pfizer Field improvements are wrapping up with grass popping up in the in-field.
We should be able to start ordering things for the ARPA project. The items need to be ordered
by the end of the calendar year. Public works will start these projects after leaves are done.

DISCUSSION on relocating the GFCC Pickle Ball Courts
1.
Planning and Zoning stated it would be difficult for the pickle ball courts to be placed at the
community center as there are two properties involved and with the easement they could only go
where the green spaces are. Mr. Johnson stated that the shared courts with the tennis court has
been working but more is needed and the shared courts have temporary nets. Ms. Finegan asked
if they eventually build a commercial pickle ball in the area would that diminish our need for
courts. Mr. Johnson responded that we still would need long term indoor courts. Ms. Cobb
asked if there were any different sites that are of similar types that could be considered. Mr.
Johnson stated that the quote that was received was for green space for 2 courts and any
deviation would increase the Price. Ms. Hawes stated that the end of East Drive would be an
idea as there is also parking there. It was decided that Mr. Johnson would get input from the
community.
