Subject:	Ad Hoc Committee: Planning and Zoning

I’m writing as a Ledyard resident and business owner here in town, to ask you to 
support bringing back separate Planning and Zoning Commissions.
I think having separate commissions would give Ledyard a better opportunity to focus 
on the future of our town and the kind of community we want to be years from now. 
Planning and zoning are both important, but they serve different purposes, and I believe 
each deserves the time and attention to do its job well.
Separate commissions would also give us some additional checks and balances when 
zoning rules are changed. It would allow commissioners to focus more closely on either 
planning or zoning, while giving residents more opportunities to be involved and have 
their voices heard when important land-use decisions are being made.
As residents, we all have a stake in how Ledyard grows and changes. I believe separating 
the two commissions would lead to more thoughtful discussion and better decisions for 
our town and its future.
