VIII. NEW BUSINESS
Linda C. Davis Food Pantry Update

Ms. Chapman shared updates regarding food pantry operations. Ms. Chapman noted that due to
recent cuts from the federal government to the TEFAP (The Emergency Food Assistance
Program) CT Foodshare is experiencing challenges in sourcing food. Ms. Marcek added that
they have been unable to order from CT Foodshare for the past few weeks due to limited
offerings and the inability to reach the 500 lb minimum for delivery. Ms. Chapman highlighted
the pantry's community support and efforts to maintain eligibility with CT Foodshare. Ms.
Kapusta inquired about partnerships with schools to organize food drives. Ms. Chapman
confirmed that the schools do participate in such drives, particularly at the high school and
middle school levels.
Parks & Recreation Summer Camp Scholarships

The Committee discussed an upcoming fundraiser for the Parks & Recreation scholarship fund.
The fundraiser will take place at Barkin Barley on Sunday May 4th. Ms. Chapman will share the
link for people to sign up for the Taco Cookoff and encouraged board members to participate
and encourage others to register. Ms. Shipley offered to provide some decorations for the event.
Ms. Chapman will provide the folding tables, utensils and voting forms. All board members
were encouraged to share the event on Facebook and promote attendance.
*Post Meeting Note - The Barkin Barley Taco Cook Off Fundraiser was cancelled due to lack of
registrations.
Ms. Chapman discussed the need for more fundraising efforts for the Parks & Recreation
Scholarship Fund. Ms. Chapman added when the $10,000 allocated from ARPA (American
Rescue Plan Act) funds are depleted there is currently a balance of $1500 in the scholarship
fund. Ms. Chapman encouraged the board to brainstorm new fundraising efforts.

Ms. Chapman shared that Social Services will have a booth at the August 13th Farmer's Market
to collect school supplies. The next Social Services Board meeting will be held on July 15,
2025.
