NEW BUSINESS
Neglected Cemetery Grant Discussion.
The Committee conducted a review of the Neglected Cemetery Account Grant Program details.
Copies of the NCAGP contract between the State and municipality were provided for examination.
Chairman Vidal will contact the grant office to seek clarification on the flexibility of the financial
allotments provided within the grant. If permissible, the Committee would like to reallocate the
award from ground maintenance to headstone restoration. Mr. Godino has extended an invitation to
Mr. Geer, who possesses expertise in cemetery preservation, to share his knowledgeable insights and
potentially assume the role of subcontractor for the grant projects.
The Committee has selected five cemeteries to focus on; they are as follows:
Newton Cemetery - 277 Whalehead Road, Gales Ferry.
Morgan Billings Cemetery - Entrance - Gallup Hill Road, Ledyard
Stoddard Hurlburt Cemetery - 29 Kings Highway, Gales Ferry
Robert Stoddard Cemetery - 1837 Route 12, Gales Ferry
Maintown Cemetery (Yellow Hill) - Approximately 101 Pequot Trail, Ledyard
The Committee and Mr. Geer will convene at the Town Hall at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 28th to
inspect the selected cemeteries and determine the best course of action moving forward
