I am amenable to holding a public workshop understanding that that workshop is a separate event and function than the ad hoc committee, at least to my understanding. The reason for written comments is solely due to time constraints and the popularity of this ad hoc committee. I foresee that the ad hoc committee could - in its recommendations - recommend holding a public workshop prior to any decision- making. But I do not think the ad hoc committee can hold a public workshop within its function/purpose “of” the ad hoc. I could be wrong and would stand corrected if that is in fact the case. Therefore, I suggest we continue with written comments and develop a recommendation to hold a public workshop if deemed necessary and favorable from the committee findings, once the ad hoc committee has performed its duty. Some residents have already expressed interest in having an opportunity to speak directly to the Ad Hoc Committee before we finalize our report. I told Ty that my only concern is that we have just four regular meetings remaining, and opening each meeting to public comment could significantly reduce the time available for the Committee's work. While the Committee does not have decision-making authority, we do have the opportunity to make recommendations through our final report. I understand why some residents feel they would like the chance to be heard before those recommendations are finalized. One possibility I suggested was holding a separate meeting—perhaps more in the form of a public workshop—where residents could share their thoughts without taking time away from our scheduled working meetings. I was wondering what's your position on this? Are you open to suggesting Carmen add revisiting our public comment policy to the upcoming agenda, or do you think the current approach is the better way to proceed? I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts. Best, Dave S.
